A multi-purpose trail connecting New Lebanon and Stephentown, NY.
Named after the Corkscrew Division of the historic Rutland Railroad which ran from Bennington, Vermont, to Chatham, New York, the natural surface trail generally follows the old rail bed that was left behind. The trail provides recreational opportunities for residents and visitors who enjoy the natural beauty of our area and promotes the health and strength of our community and local businesses.

The Corkscrew Rail Trail is an unpaved, flat trail that is open to the public year round (except during hunting season in certain marked sections) for walking, bicycling, horseback riding, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. The trail is on privately owned land and available through the generosity and cooperation of the landowners. Please respect the landowner’s property and the trail rules at all times so that we may enjoy this trail for many years.
-
Primary trail access is on Knapp Road in Stephentown, NY, about a half mile west of NYS Route 22. This trail can also be accessed from Wyomanock Road. Parking is along the roadside. In New Lebanon, the trail has various access points from Old Post Road going North, it is on the near side of the Wyomanock, look for a truck weight limit sign and the bridge. The trail is just before both of them. Closest legal parking is at Shatford Park down the street. Our easements end at the wooden bridge crossing the gully between the beaver pond and the Wyomanock. Another access point is at Tilden Road.
-
Bicycle riders should wear protective headgear - this is required by state law for children 16 years and younger, but recommended for all wheeled users. Littering, camping, fires and alcoholic beverages are prohibited. Keep pets on a short leash and clean up after them. Stay on the trail and respect adjacent private property. Stop at all road crossings.
